ANSWER: ODBC is an abbreviation for Open Database Connectivity. It is a system that allows a software application to communicate with a database. ODBC was invented by Microsoft and Simba Technologies.

A software application that supports ODBC lets the user utilize SQL (Structured Query Language) commands to retrieve information from a database; the application might also allow the user to change information in the database or add new information to the database.
