Canada Post to phase out urban home delivery
|
DEC 13, 2013. Canada Post
will institute dramatic changes
to its mail services beginning next year. It's part of a new plan that includes
phase-out of door-to-door delivery in cities and steep hikes in postage-stamp prices.
Members of some community organizations are upset, and the postal union is taking steps
to protect jobs.
However, some say many Canadians will barely feel the effects of these
changes.
Inexpensive and utbiquitous electronic technologies have reduced Canadians' reliance on the postal service.
Bills are paid on line, packages are delivered by couriers, and holiday greetings arrive
via email.
Canada Post is in financial trouble, and the coming changes in delivery of services by Canada Post
is an attempt to address the organization's financial difficulties.
