New DesignMerge versions support 2-D bar codes and UTF-8 Unicode text
SEP 8, 2011. The new DesignMerge "dot-11" releases are now available.
These new versions (3.11, 4.11, 5.11) are fully compatible with Adobe InDesign CS3, CS4, CS5, and CS5.5
for both Macintosh and Windows. Included in these releases are several brand-new features, which are outlined below.
Depending upon your particular situation, you might be able to upgrade to the latest DesignMerge release
for your configuration free of charge. If you'd like to discuss this, give us a call at 888-260-7316.
Support for 2-D bar codes. When used in conjunction with DesignMerge, the Meadows 2D Bar Code Module
for Adobe InDesign allows you to create fully variable 2-D (two-dimensional) bar codes based on data taken from a database field.
Supported formats are QR Code, DataMatrix, and PDF417.
Unicode support. The DesignMerge dot-11 software supports UTF-8 Unicode text. Of course, like previous
versions, it also supports the import of ASCII text. The DesignMerge dot-11 Database Definitions feature
has a new "Data Type" setting that allows you to indicate whether the database file you're using
contains UTF-8 data or ASCII data. In addition, DesignMerge's Quick Setup feature determines automatically
when a database file is a UTF-8 text file if the file includes the UTF-8 BOM (Byte Order Mark).
